New Delhi-Amritsar tragedy is not at all railways fault. Gathering of people near railway track in Amritsar for Dussehra celebration was a clear case of trespassing .For this event no permission was given by the railways.The local authorities were aware about this celebration and it was attended by a senior ministers wife.Railway official said,we have not given any permission for this event so the local administration should take the responsibility. It was so much smoke that the driver of the train was unable to see anything and that time he was negotiating a curve,the railway official said.So in any way the driver is not blamed.But railway is cooperating in rescue and relief operations.Commissioner Sonali Giri said that nobody was given permission and even not applied with the Amritsar municipal cooperation.On the site around 60 people including women and children died and 72 were injured when they were watching Dussehra by standing on the railway track. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved Rs2 lakh for the family of the dead and Rs 50,000 for the injured.Helpline numbers have also been issued by railways.But railway has denied any compensation as these people were not passengers of the train.But said railway is ready to cooperate at any level. Minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha said that there was no negligence on the part of the national transporter and people are not suppose to organise these type of events near the railway tracks.
